For This Year’s Festivities: Spiced Dark Chocolate Cointreau Cake

We thought of adding a Sunday Folks twist to the traditional British fruitcake. Instead of using a spiced butter cake, we opted to use an intensely chocolatey cake base made with 55.5% dark chocolate couverture and festive spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves. Replacing the brandy is a boozy splash of Cointreau, a triple sec with orange notes, which go hand-in-hand with the rich cocoa flavor. Finally, this gorgeous handcrafted cake is topped with sweet dark cherries, juicy apricots, U.S. pecans, and dark chocolate droplets.
