Dedication to the Craft: Gryphon Tea Company

We’ve always been drawn to working with other local independent brands, a lot of times due to a similarity in brand philosophy and like-minded work ethic. Gryphon Tea Company is one of them.

Lim Lam Thye’s history in tea-importing traces back almost 100 years, and it was in 2006 when fourth generation owner Lim Tian Wee struck out with a separate company and brand. With its unique tea recipes, Gryphon Artisan Tea gained a following since then and has won numerous industry awards.

From processing of tea leaves to the blending of ingredients, a lot of thought and care is put into each recipe. Their British Breakfast Tea, for example, features a black tea blend of Assam, Kenyan and Ceylon. The leaves are plucked, withered, rolled and then left for some time to fully oxidise. This process is what gives the final cup a deep, dark colour and flavour.

By focusing on one’s palate and the bringing of different flavours together, Gryphon’s teas also tend to harmonise various fragrances and tastes. Their Chamomile Dream has an herbal bouquet, with its blend of chamomile, lemon verbena, lemongrass, marigold, and lavender. Their ever-popular Earl Grey Lavender is also another example. It uses bergamot, more commonly known as an aromatic oil than an ingredient for foods. The peels of the fruit are used in this tea blend to give it a distinct flavour.

These are but some of their unique teas from Gryphon, and it is quite telling of their dedication to the craft. We’re proud to serve up their teas in our space, and hope their (and our) passion for high quality and new taste experiences shines through in every product.
